1987 Ford Escort Wagon Power Steering
My power steering was starting to go out for a few seconds at a time so I took it to a garage and had it looked at and the power steering reserve was dry. The first garage wanted $300 to change the pump, without even knowing for sure if there was a leak or what. So I took it to another guy, and he put some transmission fluid in it, and now it works fine, and it even quit groaning everytime you move the wheel.
Is it ok to put transmission fluid in the power steering? That seems weird to me, but it seems to work. And looking it up, it seems to be ok for older cars, and mine's an '87.
Any comments? I just don't want my car to blow up or something.
