Hi

i have a 1991 Ford Escort on a H Plate 1.6

i went to go out and tryed to start the car i turned the key and all the lights came on and nothing from the starter motor not even the solenoid click

i had the starter motor and solenoid replaced and i have the same problem

turn the key and all the dash lights come on every works but it will not start and the is no solenoid click

the car will run if it is push started and popped in 2nd

if anyone can help i would be very greatful

How about the switch on the clutch pedal?

from what i have seen there is not a switch on the clutch pedal

Haven't you had to push the clutch pedal in to start it before?

no never had to push the clutch in to start it

Maybe that's where the problem is then. There's a switch on the clutch linkage under the dash that is supposed to keep the starter from cranking until the pedal is pushed down.

there is not button on the clutch

i guess i should also say this is a UK Ford Escort 1991

The advice "rtg143" suggested does not apply to your car in UK , obviously different in USA models .Is the battery ok ? Because the lights come on does not mean there is enough power to turn engine . Are you getting power at starter motor ? If you remove starter motor you can test on bench with a couple of jump leads. If ok then a case of checking back to trace fault .Could check earth cable from engine / g/box to body is ok .

the batter has been fully charge and the starter motor has been tested and it works but i do not know if power is getting to it, how can i test to see if power is getting to the starter power

Check to make sure the battery terminals and battery posts are clean and tight. Also check to make sure the connections at the starter and ground are clean and tight. If all this checks out check the condition of the battery cables themselves. Check them for burnt or broken wiring or cracked insulation where corrosion may have set in inside the cable. One more thing that I can think of that's a posibility is a bad ignition switch.
