Hello,
This is my first post. I have a technical question. My niece has a 1994 Escort 1.9L engine with automatic transmission. Recently she broke a timing belt while I was out of town. I have 2 questions.

1. Is this 1.9L engine considered an INTERFERENCE or NON-INTERFERENCE engine?

2. Does anyone have a diagram showing the correct routing of the belt around so many components? This belt broke off, and when I opened the cover it fell out. I think this is the original timing belt.

Any help anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

1.9 is a non interference engine, just line up the timing marks, slap another belt on it and fire it up. I've had the timing belt on my '88 Pony break twice over the years and no damage either time. Currently 501K miles. If you'll post your email address I'll send you a diagram of the belt routing from my Chilton's manual. You should also replace or check the condition of the water pump while you have the belt off since it would have to come back off if you have to replace the water pump.
