Re: 1994 Escort gt automatic

Usually the sender unit located in the gas tank. You can access this by removing your back seat (push towards rear and pull up hard on the front), remove an access panel on the floor driver's side. You can us a small hammer and a brass edged chisel to spin ring in gas tank counter clockwise to loosen. This will allow you to remove sender unit. A new one will typically come with a new fuel pump (assembly) and costs around $140. Takes about 45 minutes to swap.

Question Re: 1994 Escort gt automatic

There may be another way of teting this sending unit to see if it is good. I used a multimeter once- but can't remember the exact procedure at the top of the tank. Maybe another member can help us with this.

Re: 1994 Escort gt automatic

You should be able to test the sending unit with an ohm meter. Pull the sender from the tank, remove the wire and hook up the meter. Resistance should change as the float is moved through its 'range of motion'
