1998 ZX2 coolant sensor replaced, ran great for one hour, choking out again
Hey folks! I am desperate for a solution to this problem. I have a 2.0 1998 ZX2. I had been having problems with the car choking out after running it a few miles. No long trips. Problems started this summer and steadily got worse. I replaced spark plugs twice, air filter, pcv valve, ignition coil....with no real change in performance. Then today, I changed the coolant temperature sensor...and she started running like a raped ape. I thought the problem was fixed. Then after I filled up the gas tank....you guessed it...check engine light started flashing, engine started missing badly....sputtering, and then by the time I got it back to the house, i hit the gas and it choked out again. I think the temperture sensor was a key component in the problem, as before that, the car would not run, and after replacing it, it ran great...but like I said, only for about an hour around town. Is it possible that I just need to replace the sensor again...maybe getting a defective part? Or could this be a symptom of the ECU going out? Or is this a symptom of the connection being bad....or is there somewhere else to check. I have no gauges or monitors to test anything with.....just a girl with very little money, and a little more than the basic understanding of cars....doing trial and error on the only piece of transportation I have....before i junk it and start hoofing it. Please help if you can....
