Hey guy's, my turn for some help. Wifes Escort broke down recently. I replaced fuel pump and filter, then the fuel pressure regulator. This did not fix it. After more trouble-shooting, Pulled spark plug wires one at a time and #2 did not make any difference. Replaced fuel rail with injectors (used),and that seemed to fix it. It is giving trouble again. Pull the wires and makes a difference in running on all cylinders. The car idles slightly rough, but on accelleration it bucks really bad. I disconnected the MAF and it did not make any difference in the way it ran.

So any advice? Does it sound like the MAF? What are the symptoms if it is the TPS or MAF malfunction?

Forgot to add... it did this about a week ago for a few minutes, then cleared up. Tonight it messed up for about the last 10 miles of a 15 mile trip. Also, is there a way to test the Maf or TPS?

Sounds more like a HT problem to me- does it have a coil pack? TPS and MAF wont give you a misfire on individual cylinders.

The original problem was one fuel injector not working. I also replaced the fuel pump and filter because of milage. Second time it seemed to just surge really bad, but not all the time. I couldn't tell if it was spark or fuel related. I ended up putting the new fuel pressur regulator back on yesterday and it seems to have fixed the problem. Thanks for the reply Fordtech.
