well i have a 99 escort tht recently spat a rod through the block and now its my project car. if anyone has any experiance in puttin a 3.9 motor w/tranny in an escort id love to hear how it turned out....

I've seen the 2.5 DOHC from a Probe GT stuffed into an Escort before, and that's a larger motor on the outside. The Escort's platform mate the Mazda MX-3 even had a factory V6 option. It probably could be done, but would take a really big shoehorn and a willingness to do a swap nobody has ever tried before.
