2000 escort zx2 fuel pump problem

I just replaced the fuel pump in my 2000 zx2 but the car still won't run. i have checked the inertia switch and it is in the proper position. I only replaced the pump. Does the rest of the assembly have any major importence ? Is it possible that I hooked up the plugs wrong ? what other possibillities are there ? Please help.

Why did you change the pump in the first place ? Is the pump buzzing when ignition switched on ? This shows you the plugs / wiring .

The fuel pump still is not pumping any fuel. I checked the 30 amp injector fuse and it is coroded. I also re-checked the wiring every thing is hooked up properly.

Re: 2000 escort zx2 fuel pump problem

Could possibly be a bad inertia switch. I had one go bad on my '88 Escort several years ago. If the injector fuse was corroded it would probably be a good idea to check the wiring in the fuel circuit for corrosion and/or damage. Could also be a bad fuel pump relay. If the ZX-2 is like the regular Escort there are two relays on or near the ECU bracket. One is black/brown which is the EEC relay and one is black/green this is the fuel pump relay.

Re: 2000 escort zx2 fuel pump problem

I looked near the ecu and cannot find the relay. The ford dealership told me there is a cluster of relay's including the fuel pump relay located on the driver side under the hood. i cannot however locate the relay here either. would someone please help me figure out where the relay is before i spend money on a new inertia switch...

Posts: 3 98 ZX2 Fuel pump relay location?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey guys, I'm trying to fix my sisters car and I can't find the location of the relay for the fuel pump. I've looked under the hood, under the dash, by the ECM, under the rear seats, and I can't find it anywhere. This is the first time I've ever worked on this car so I'm kind of clueless. If you a could help me out in any way, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks
Kevin.

So no one ever answered ya huh??? I'm kind of having the same problem... I have a 2002 escort ZX2, and I killed it in a flood we had here in Pueblo, Co a week and a half ago. Well my car works, but there's not enough power going to the fuel pump to get the fuel flowing to my engine. You don't what to know how we figured it out, but we're trying to find the fuel pump relay on the car to check that, and we can't for the life of us find it! We checked everywhere you have! So if anyone looks at this and knows anything about it!! I'm not sure it would be in the same place as the 98, but it's worth the look!!

I was told at the dealer that they don't show a fuel pump relay for that car. I guess it's back to the drawing board.

see I called the dealer too and they said that there's a box full of relays that costs about 205 dollars to replace, and if one goes out you have to replace them all because they're all in the same box, but auto zone sells the fuel pump relay for my car for 6 dollars and checker sells it for 20 so I have no idea.. Now my friend that's helping me work on my car says he thinks he knows where this box of relays are that they're under the injectors, so we're going to check that out, and hopfully that's it, and I don't have to replace all of them cause that's almost a whole car payment...... =)

Oh please tell me if you have found this relay box. I seemed to have shorted out the fuel injection system somewhere and it keeps popping the fuse under the hood as soon as i put a new one in.

Thanks,

Kyle

Well yes I found it there's a little black box under the air intake by the fuses, but not in the fuses. That box is full of all the relays. What I did to my car was when the fuel pump relay shorted out it fried the motherboard that all the relays plugged into... So, that kind of sucks because that's going to cost $205 from the dealership, and I have to wait for them to order it... I hope this helps all!!!!

Beware!!! I figured out what happened to my car. The fuel pump relay shorted out and started a fire in the little black box which is actually called the intergrated relay control module that's what you will be looking for... At ford they cost $240 at the junk yard they cost $35 in Pueblo, Co that is.... I got mine off of a 99 and my car is a 02, so for everyone that has one 99 to 02 the little black box (ircm) is located under the air intake. Yes it is by the fuse box under the hood, but NOT in the fuse box... You can not replace one relay on this car... If one goes the rest have to be replace, because they are connected to a chip inside the box... Hope this helps!!
