2002 Escort Bad Valve Seat ? help on this model's issues
Hello,
New here and I appreciate your help.
My fiancee has a 2002 ford escort 2.0 litre 4 door automatic tranny sedan.
Last night she was driving home and it began to vibrate on her then eventually stalled out (around 30-40mph). She tried to start it and the engine would catch but not maintain an idle, stalling in a few seconds.
I was at work and she called me.
I had her try some common things and then told her to call AAA and tow it.
The mechanic looking it over states it has no compression in Cylinder one and around 150 psi in the other 3 cylinders. He states air is coming back out the intake so he thinks the valve seat is the problem. He says he cannot tell any further until the head is removed. I asked and he said if the other plugs are
connected and Cylinder one is not it runs without issue.
This car has only 62k miles on it. The oil is changed every 3-4k miles and it is
otherwise maintained. Is this a common issue on this engine? The mechanic states he sees this a lot with escorts of this range.
I have not looked at the car myself yet. I am a shadetree mechanic and auto enthusiast with turbo import sports cars. I know very little of domestics or the escort.
Questions:
1.Any advice on how to proceed with it. It should be covered by an aftermarket extended warranty purchased with the car?
2.The car has always had a horrible vibration at idle, I fiured it was a motor
mount but I see there's a TSB on it. Is there a site that will give me the actual descriptions of the TSBs and not just the titles without paying?
3. Are there problems with the heads on these engines?
thanks,
-Aaron
