we have a 2002 ford zx2 manual transmission that would run fine then just die and not restart. it did this more than once and after awhile it would restart. we tested it and it wasnt getting fuel pressure so we changed the fuel pump and now it has fuel pressure but wont start. Our mac mentor scanner cannot communicate with the car at all. it has power to the coil but no signal. at this point the car will crank and has fuel pressure but no spark? any ideas other than changing the pcm?

A blown fuse can cause the scanner not to communicate. Check ALL your fuses.

A faulty crank sensor can cause a no spark condition. Double check the shielded wiring going to it as well.

I'm not really sure what the PATS system disables on this car (fuel or spark) but a key or transponder may be faulty as well.

the key for this car doesnt look like a pats key and all fuses are ok? There is an aftermarket radio? Could this be related to anti theft device that isnt working correctly? But none of this explains why we cant get the scanner to communicate with the car?
