I have a 2003 Escort ZX2. It always started first try. We noticed the temp gauge wasn't working so we changed the temp sensor. We filled it with gas. We washed the engine to get all the antifreeze off. Then the cooling fan came on immediately and gauge still not working. We changed the thermostat. Now the gauge works. The cooling fan still comes on. The bigger problem is that the car now takes five times + to start. Once it does it is fine. It seems like it is not getting any gas. What could be wrong?

Could it be bad gas? Fuel filter? or something related to what we did since the problem happened right afterwards?

Update - This is only when the engine is cold - when it is warm it starts right up.

Lets see if I understand you correctly....When the car is Cold...it takes 5 or more turns of the Engine to start....???? Or is it you have to turn the Key 5 or more times to make it start??? But once it is Warmed up or still HOT...it starts right up???

You may have done some minor damage to the Coil Pack...
