We have a 94 escort with a 1.9 liter engine. There is a clicking which sounds like it's coming from the head. We changed the head out with another from the junk yard and the clicking is still there. It's pretty loud when your driving down the road. The car runs fine and everything looks ok. Anyone have any ideas?
I'm not sure if the engine is OHC or not but when you changed the head did it also include the cam/rocker gear etc.
I'm assuming the click goes quicker with higher engine revs .

Try taking the belt off any accessories such as air con or alternator fan etc to eliminate them and only run it for a short time to see if noise is gone.
I hope it isn't lower in the engine.

Sounds like it could also be a fuel injector ticking. Disconnect them one at a time and see if the ticking goes away. I have a 95 Tracer Trio and I have the same ticking sound from an injector but it still works and for the price of a new one I will let it go for now.
