95 escort hard shift auto
my 95 escort with 1.9 automatic runs great, especially now that the timing belt is fixed. I been getting good advice on this site, so I figure it won't hurt to throw this one out as well. here is another problem it has. I got this car with amost 90,000 on the odometer, and it always shifts kind of hard on the first shift. I think it's second gear, and goes about like this. you take your foot off the brake at a standing start, give it a little gas and get it rolling, and it then shifts hard, and too soon, almost as if it is being slammed into gear. it then shifts very smooth up to top gear, you can hardly tell it even shifts again it is so smooth. I have changed the fluid and filter, did not help at all. i then removed a half pint of fluid, and replaced it with lucas brand transmission lube. it is supposed to stop hard shifting. it did not work either. is the trans. junk, and coughing up it's last breath, or is this something that can be fixed at home?
