'95 Escort LX - Ignition / Starting Trouble
Hello all,
My wife has a '95 Escort LX that will not start without intervention. Everything appears fine from an electrical point of view: the power windows and locks work, the radio works, the lights work. It runs fine, it just won't start when I turn the key. The only thing that happens is that there is a click from a relay mounted on the firewall on the passenger side of the car.
The only way I can get the car to start is to run a wire (with a switch) from the battery to the passenger compartment and then to the starter. Then I put the key in the "run" position and flip the switch to give juice to the starter. After the car starts, I flip the switch off to disengage the starter.
So far I've replaced the starter and the battery terminal cable going to the starter. There don't appear to be any blown fuses. I've checked the computer and discovered no faults being reported. I've had the ignition control module checked to no avail. Tonight's project is to replace the ignition switch/key on the column and see if that helps. I'm getting a bit tired of playing hide-n-seek with this problem. Does anyone have any ideas/pointers for things to check?
