95 escort, overcooling / no fault codes
6 months back I picked up a cheap run-about; 95 Ford Escort wagon 1.9L, I think this was a Laser back in Oz ( I moved to FL, USA).
It would run very hot so I replaced the blocked radiator. Engine did not appear to have overheated and it looked ok inside.
Check engine light would come on more and more frequently during medium-hard acceleration and at higer speeds > 100km/60mi /hour, but go away after easing off the pedal. I subsequently found half of the smaller vacuum hoses were old, cracked or blown so I replaced them.
Now when I start car, cooling fan kicks in almost straight away, even when car has sat overnight and is very cool. Engine Coolant indicator on the dash remains at normal levels and Check Engine light also comes on and stays on permanently.
1) I cant read the fault codes. Voltmeter and a reading device do not pulse, but they're at max voltage/ signal. I think this is because the E.C.T is permanently screwed. I disconnected the battery overnight, and re-ran the tests the next day (warmed up car). Same problem.
2) Does the overcooling suggest a faulty E.C.T? Its covered with years of collected grime/oil so it might have shorted?
