97 Escort Trouble Code & ABS problem

Car is a '97 Ford Escort (auto tranny) . Just purchased the car with 88,000 miles, runs great. Check engine light is on, borrowed a code scanner and it revealed P0715 "Input/Turbine Speed Sensor Circuit Malfunction." Now I'm thinking this is probably a sensor in the tranny but don't know where to start to look for a possible loose plug, etc.

Also, the ABS light is constantly on, but when I scanned for codes it found only the one P0715. It's my understanding that on 97 and newer Escort/Tracer ABS systems the trouble codes should appear when running an OBD-II scan. I saw in the Haynes manual that the 96 and older had a test plug in the engine compartment where a jumper could be installed to reveal trouble codes, but it said for 97 and newer that an OBD-II scan tool was required. Since I didn't get any ABS codes, I'm now wondering if there isn't a special ABS plug to tie the OBD-II scanner to when scanning the ABS system.

The Hayes service manual is very lacking when it comes to post 97 ABS problems, basically suggesting to take it to a dealer service center.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Raymond
