I just bought this 97 Escort Wagon today as a vehicle to transport my tools around town to local jobs. It wasn't even in my name for more than 4 hrs when returning from a job I came to an intersection hit the brakes and the pedal lost pressure and straight to the floor. I looked underneath the car in the rear where there was a puddle forming and the line burst right around where it comes up from the rear axle and continues along towards the gas tank.

Has anyone replaced the rear lines on this car? Is it a straight forward job? I have redone the rear lines on an Aerostar with nothing complicated underneath, but from looking under the car it looks like it might be a little more work.

If it's the metal line that broke, then it's pretty straight forward.

EDIT: well... it depends on where it broke, because a common place for breaks it at the belt that holds the four lines that runs into the rear, if one is broke, you might go to fix it, and break the rest, and have to do the whole rear to front replacement.

Hey thanks. Where about underneath is that located? I was planning on replacing the whole line if it wasn't too big of a job. The rest of the line is in no better shape so might as well go all the way with a new line.

From what I researched, you should find it right before the rear axle.
