Hi there,
New to this Site and have a Question. I have a '98 Ford Escort LXE that is making what I think is lifter noise. It has 109,000 miles on it. Started making a tapping noise (very light) about a week ago.
Two part question here: If I take it to a trusted Mechanic I know:
1. I'm not very car-smart, should I ask them to see if it's just a Lifter Adjustment? Or to just check the cylinders? Is there a certain type of "Diagnostic" you ask for for this to check it all out? (The cylinders).
2. What should be the "point of no return" as far as Repair Options go? Would replacing a cylinder be the case here? And If I do, is it worth it, or am I just kidding myself and it's a sign that the car is "tired" and I should just trade it in? Is it a sign that the engine is just giving up and reached it's "life"??

Thanks alot!
