99' Escort ZX2 stereo

I want to take out this garbage stereo but i dont know how to take off the faceplate? The faceplate seems to be very unique and im wondering if a new stereo will even fit in there, or will i have to make some cuts?
Thanks

Re: 99' Escort ZX2 stereo

Are you talking about the rounded face, and a stock header unit? I have a ZX2 and the header was simple to replace. You should see 4 holes around where the factory player is (two on either side). You need to go to your local auto parts store, and buy a ford oem radio removal tool (its literally two U shaped wires). You just push the tool in on both sides, and pull outwards (that is, pull the left tool towards the left door, and the right tool towards the right). After doing that, the radio should slip out.

I didn't take the photo below (i googled it), but its similar to what mine looks like.
