99 ZX2 won't start - Ford Forums

OK, so I was on here about a month ago while I was replacing the timing belt in my car. Well, that went well, and the car was running great, however, all the sudden, I was driving the car up to the mall, parked it, shopped for about 20-30mins, and when I came back out to it, it would not start. Cranks fine, sounds as if it has compression, but won't hit and run. When the car is cold cold, and has not been attempted to be started in awhile, it'll crank and hit real well like it's going to start, but then doesn't. I did find that a couple of spark plug wires were arcing, so I replaced the plugs and wires, still nothing. I'm getting fuel pushed out of the filter, and have tried a new coil pack. Still nothing. I've tried putting a little ether down the cylinders and putting the plugs back in to start, nothing. What could I possibly be missing? The car hasn't thrown any codes to help me out. I'm going to run a compression test tonight and check that I'm getting spark at the plugs with a timing light (although I'm guessing you can't really check timing on this car like the old days...). Any ideas?

Well, a crank position sensor, cam position sensor, coil pack, wires, plugs, and pcm later, still won't start. Checked all fuses, good. Fuel injectors are squirting fine. Cams are still in line. I'm at a loss here...

Interesting thing just happened... Had the fuel rail off, and with continuous cranking, the car would hit more consistantly, but not start of course... So, I'm thinking the car is flooding itself, but how would I stop that?

If it doesn't start with starting fluid, you most likely have a spark issue. You stated that you would check that, if you did, what were your results?

Starting fluid isn't help either. Like I said, I think the car is getting too much gas. I can smell gas from the exhaust while trying to start, and the closest it's been to starting is with the fuel rail off. Tried a new water temp sensor, but the one Autozone sold me doesn't fit. So I tried putting the new sensor in a warm cup of water and hooking it to try and start to get the car to lean out, still nothing. And the air temp sensor is not existant on my car for some reason...

That is why I said if it doesn't start with the starting fluid you may have a spark problem. Pull some plugs out and see if they are wet. If so you need to get them dried out or replace them, or it will probably never start.
You still haven't said if you verified if you have good spark or not. (to all the plugs)

It's got spark. Borrowed a friends OBD Diag machine. It has directed me to the flexplate being cracked and not allowing the CKP to read any data, therefore throwing time off. Time to call the shop that did my clutch I suppose...
