Question auto sieera shifting probs

hi,

i own a 2.0 sohc efi auto ghia sierra, its a reasonable car and the engine seems good after 150k miles, but the auto box has a problem, when pulling away from junctions it is very sluggish, as though it is not pulling away in the lowest gear, if you put your foot down even more it makes it even worse, once you get moving it then changes down to the lowest gear and away it goes, when you are going along at any speed it reguarly changes gear when i feel it is not nessacary, the other thing is when it is neutral the revs stay at 1200-1300 rpm. i dont know much about auto trans, but know a bit about the eec-iv engine managament, and i think it could be the Vehicle speed sensor (if it has one fitted) or is the auto box just knackered, i have checked the oil level and it seems ok.

hope soemone has some ideas.

cheers

scott

Not only will the VSS give erratic idle speed, it can also cause the module to lock the torque convertor to prevent overheating of the box, so if the sensor is found to be the fault, no doubt it will cure both of your problems. As the mileage is quite high for an auto box, I'd also change the transmission fluid ASAP.
