We have a 1990 kf 1.6 laser that has an engine that is using lots of oil bout 1.5 litres per tank of petrol. Is it worth trying to do rings bearings, valve stem seals or is it worth replacing the engine.
And if so has anyone got a decent one?

Depends on what you deam a fair amount of money to spend. You should be able to pick up a good low K engine for less than a grand from a wreckers.

If you rebuild it, its going to cost you a bit more than that, but then you know its a good rebuilt motor.

In saying that, there are a few places around that advertise, re-rung, new bearing motors fitted for under a grand, but they wont replace all the extra stuff that you would if you rebuit it yourself. EG welch plugs, timing belts, water pump, valve regrind, etc.

You just need to work out what your prepared to pay for what return.
