I have a 2000 Ford Escort ZX2, I recently got a code of the thermostat being stuck open. I changed it today and now the speedometer is no longer working. The temperature and RPM gauge is working fine. I also changed the fuse for the dash with no luck.

Earlier this year the speedometer stopped working, so I changed the Vehicle Speed Sensor and it started working again. Since the Speed Sensor is so new, and it started immediately after changing the thermostat, I kinda doubt its the sensor again. Anyone got an idea?

And make sure the new sensor you put it is not coming out, I don't think it can if you put it in right, but it's worth a look.

Thanks for the ideas guys. I checked the sensor and its wires and everything looked good. I dug up my Autozone receipt for the sensor and found that it had a two year warranty (it hasn't even been a year yet). Since it was still in warranty I went ahead and changed the sensor and it fix the problem! I have no clue why changing my thermostat would of triggered the failure of a speed sensor - maybe the sensor was already defective and un-hooking/re-hooking the battery did it in? But for now the new sensor is working *fingers crossed*
