Does anybody know if the turbo twin cams out of the TX3 laser and the Capri share the same or similar block as the 2ltr Pinto motor?? Will they bolt straight into an escort engine bay?

I would think not as the TX3/Capri motors are a Mazda based engine and east-west to boot, as opposed to the old Pinto being a Ford north-south engine!

Im told the Mondeo head goes onto the Pinto Block they are East West.
Have you seen the KA motor? it looks just like an old escort kent (not sure if it is or not) its east west aswell. Doesnt mean they cant be bolted in the other way with a sump change.

still dont see it working though, or else ppl wouldve been doing it ages ago, and i havent heard of such a conversion done yet.

better trying to do an SR20 or CA18 from the nissans, been done b4 as well, or you could just spend the money and turbo your pinto, they go pretty hard with a snail hanging from em :D

Laser and mondeo motors are completely different to the Pinto and would be/aren't a simple swap.... The KA motor is based on the old kent crossfow motor but isnt really worth it as it has no power and is only 1300cc

yep pretty much this is correct,you can buy conversion kits for the zetec (mondeo) to mk1/2 and yes dont bother with the KA mill.
You'll get 200hp out of a 2ltr zetec with throttle bodies/webers 230hp if you change cams /port/head work etc.thats about it.

Yeah the zetec is a great motor.... one day ill get the one thats sitting in my shed into my MkI.... The conversion kits make it a lot easier but are also pretty expensive, hence why im not buying a kit but doing it all ourselves

Yeh Im the same Ive looked at the kits and really if you can weld/fabricate its not too hard to knock up the peices needed,the water thermostate housing is the hardest part which is quite simple to make.
When My pinto dies after I turbo it down the track I will go for a 2ltr zetec,on throtttle bodies,for the RS

Thanks guys. I wasnt looking at the Ka motor, just using it as an example. How much did you guys pay for those Zetec engines? Whats in the conversion kits? Im asuming, sump & oil pick up, engine mounts, wiring harness, thomastat housing, mayby adapter plate to suit sierra 5spd or are they the same bolt pattern? Whats the damage on a kit.
