ESCORT 1600 or Rs2000

im lookin at purchasing my first car a ford escort
Im lookin at either a 1600 or rs2000 but i wanna start cheap and im not sure what the prices are for a 2000 or a 1600 im assumin the 1600 is cheaper
I want to get the car in good condition and do slight mods which will help me use it as a daily car so mods like fuel economy like exhaust and fix up the interior and body work.

Please help me find the perfect car, im into power but its not a neccesity as im pretty sure escorts can be worked when u want to and will show u power hahah

Thanks guys

Re: ESCORT 1600 or Rs2000

You could get something like my current toy. I've got a 4 door Mk II Escort Ghia, powered by the 2.0L OHC 'Pinto' 4 cyl with the 4 speed manual. It cost me $50 to buy, I've spent more then that getting it up to roadworthy (new tyres, putting the engine together - it was in pieces when I got it, new exhaust, new radiator, new drivers door - old one had been cut with an angle grinder..., fix up the rust, new brake pads, new steering column, & a few other things).

It may not be an RS2000, but it goes hard when I put my foot down and gets pretty good fuel econ. And once I get the paint resprayed it'll look good, I'm going for the 'rally car' look with the front and rear spoiler (already got them), fog lights and a few other little things to make it look nice.

You should be able to get one in good condition like mine that doesn't need anything to be fixed (for the roadworthy, I'm not trying to say it'll look beautiful but it should be ok mechanically) for somewhere between $500 and $2000, depending on how well looked after it's been.

Oh, and most people (asides from a few people on here who really know their Escorts) would be suprised how much power you can get out of the 2.0 'Pinto' (or even the 1.6 OHV 'Kent' engine), and when you combine that with decent gearing in the manual gearbox and the light weight of the entire car, you end up with something that can give most commodores a good scare, and even suprise a few fast falcons! I've got a book here by Steve Visard, and according to that book (which is THE bible on modifing the Ford OHC 4 'Pinto' engine), it's possible to get 100hp/litre out of it (so 200hp), normally asperated, and double that (400hp! 100 horsepower PER CYLINDER!) if you turbo it. And that isn't even taking the engine to it's absolute limit!

In case you can't tell, I'm passionate about my little Eskys, LOL!

Re: ESCORT 1600 or Rs2000

Well, Clearly you just cant go past the look of the RS2000....
The only problem is people just don’t understand how inferior they are to you when you own the an 'Rallye Sport' model. You just have to pity them i suppose....

hehehe... on a serious note both the Kent and the pinto go very hard when they want to but obviously the 1600 is more fuel economical. A good condition one can really vary... and i have absolutely no idea what a 1600 is worth.. So I couldn’t help you there... an RS2000 for a reasonable condition one could be worth a few thousand dollars, but its still possible to find a bargain.

Good luck with the decision.

Re: ESCORT 1600 or Rs2000

Go a 2 litre esky over the 1600... An RS2000 is a bonus!

From memory, in the UK, a 2 litre esky was an RS2000. In Australia, the 2 Litre escort was available in GL, Ghia, Rally Pack and RS2000. The 2 litre was the same motor across the entire range.
