Escort electrical problems

As usual, my problem started just after spending over a thousand dollars for the mechanic to fix a number of problems on my escort. Don't get me wrong, I love my little escort, it only seems to have serious problems when I'm close to a mechanic.

Anyway, the next week I'm parked at the mall and it won't turn over. The CAA guy jumps me and says the battery wires could be corroded. The next day, won't start. I go get another battery, I figure it needs replacing anyway, and I clean off the connections. Won't start. I looked in my Chiltons manual for repairing the starter but figure I'll just do more damage. Anyway, I replace a couple of fuses just for the hell of it, and voila, it starts.

However, I notice an odd thing, it's almost like the transmission is slipping or the battery isn't powering in low gears. It's nothing huge, it just seems to give a pause when I slow down, although not all the time. Since I had an alternator anyway I figure I might as well change it, I disconnect the battery and presto, the car won't start again. I clean off the connectors and rehook it and now no problems starting. However, there's still that funny little pause at low speeds, one on those things you only notice when you've listened to your car for years and can feel most every movement-no big deal but still there. However, the thing NOW is that when I apply the brakes, the interior clock lights dim, and the interior clock light 'blinks' when I put on my right blinker-but ONLY my right one. I'm going to make an appointment for the beginning of the week, but if anybody can make any suggestions I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

Re: Escort electrical problems

Sounds like a earth wire problem to me, check the main earth strap at the engine connection re the starting problem, the other lights doing funny things is also likely to be an eart wire problem.

confused Re: Escort electrical problems

i have a small problem on my 1996 ford escort si convertible

since i bought the car i have had this problem, with the light switch stalk set to off. randomly the interior lights and sidelights keep on coming on.

its annoying becuase it has flattend the battery so i have to keep pulling the fuse so people wont think im a dick head and have left my lights on.
i keep having to pull fuse number 29 because the interior lights stay on but for some strange reason the side lights on on very faint and the door alarm that tells you if you are about to leave the car and you have left your lights on comes will come on but the lights are not switched on by the stalk.

i have replaced the whole indicator and wiper stalk also some relays in the fusebox have also been changed, alll the earthing points in the engine bay etc have been cleaned off and have been made good but the problem still exists and its seriously pissing me off as i just want shot of the damn car now!

HELP HELP PLEASE HELP ME!!!
