Escort Rpm

yesterday i swap'd my dash in my mk5 escort van for one in better condition . the van is in the process of havening ice fitted .. so has it's a van the dash as had a hard life .. i got the dash out of a escort petrol 16 car on the same year L reg .when i removed the dash from the car i also removed the dash wirering loom that plugs into the fuse box .when i took the dash out the van it all came out the same way.when the dash was out i drill'd the bulkhead to run the power cables for the charging of the battrey that will be fit'd in the back of the van when i finnish'd that .i unpluged the dash wireing loom from the fusebox . but it was same has the one out of the car all the plugs on the loom where the same so i used the loom that was in.the van .. i built the dash back up and fitted the clock's out of the car into the van the plug on the back fitt'd but the rmp is not working .. o do i get the rpm working.. has anyone done this and is it a big job
