Escort RS2000

Quick and easy question here

Always wanted one of these to muck about in

What do these generally go for these days and are there still many around ?

Cheers

Chris

Re: Escort RS2000

Mmmmmmmmmm RS2000... *drools*

There are still quite a few around. They can be somewhat hard to find, because generally the owners tend to fit into 2 groups; those who think it's not worth anything "because it's an old car" and so don't consider selling it, and those who love their RS and don't WANT to sell it. One thing that is great about the RS2000 is that so many of the parts are the same as the parts for the other Escorts.

Price wise, it all depends what condition it's in.

I wouldn't be suprised if one could be found for little more then a few hundred dollars - but I also wouldn't be suprised if one that cheap needed quite a lot of work to be done to it. In fact, after looking on the Classified section of the RSOCV web site , there is one listed as for sale for $150 - "MK2 RS2000 2dr - suit wrecking $150"...

But for one in much better condition, you could be looking at over $1000, and possibly a fair bit more.

Were you interested in it as a daily driver, weekend race car, paddock basher (shudder) or as a project car?

Re: Escort RS2000

There is still a few around, but they are getting popular with entrants to tarmac rallys. Great fun to drive, and not too bad on fuel, unless you run twin webbers!

If you go looking, don't forget the water test, especially in "rust free" cars! Pour half a litre of water down the vent in front of the windscreen, then have a look inside. The bulk head was prone to rusting out from the inside, and it is an engine out job to fix. Most have a black cover over it, so you can't actually see inside.

2 doors are worth more (and look better IMHO) than 4 door RS's.

Re: Escort RS2000

4 years ago i paid $1800 for a 2 door manual (Though it is an auto bodyshell) floor was (still is) very rusty, motor was breathing oil through the carby heavily but the car was complete and came with a spare nose cone, bonnet boot, doors, rear spoiler, full set of glass and nearly a second full interior. There seem to be more going around Adelaide just lately (unfortunatly not mine yet), and there is quite often some advertised in the Trading Post. Really good ones can go for around $6-$10k.

Yes, good for fitting bigger gearboxes .

When someone fitted the manual to mine they made up the mount and covered over the water drain holes so the floor is rusted through near the gearbox mounts.

Re: Escort RS2000

To be honest ive seen crappy ones go for as low as $500, to pretty good examples for $4000.
there have been a few on Ebay lately, starting at about $1000, they didnt look to bad either.
They also didnt sell.

Re: Escort RS2000

There was one for sale locally (ACT) for $12000. But it was one of the 25 imported in 1976 for racing compliance.

Re: Escort RS2000

I have seen a couple here in Adelaide go for around $2500 or less.. its very tempting to go and buy one, i used to have a 1979 2L European Escort about 7 years ago

http://members.optusnet.com.au/cschoppe/images/escort :)

Nice cam, extractors, exhaust etc etc..was a bit of a beast, but always wanted an RS2000, would still like to get one, or even just a nice 2l escort again, keep the kms off of the ST :)

Cheers

Chris
