Will the timing belt bend valves on a 1.9L Escort when not aligned properly? TIA!

I should not, the 1.9l is a non interferance motor. I personally broke the timing belt on a 1.9 I used to own while driving and did not have any problems....having said that, I would not reccomend driving around with it not right, you should fix it as soon as possible as it may cause other problems
