ford escort 4.0L is it possible?

im looking to buy an escort but before i do so im thinking about buyin a eb-ed falcon and puttin the eb motor in the escort for a bigger power at the rear wheels with the escorts only wieghin a fraction under 1000 kgs with the eb motor a extra what 100 or 200 kgs more this thing should go well but is it as easy as puttin new engine mounts and new brackets to fit everythin on?

Re: ford escort 4.0L is it possible?

i forgot to mention im lookin at buyin a 1976 to 1980 model escort and is there a difference in the body if i was to buy a 1.3 coz its cheaper and the motor will be either sold to a wrecker or thrown out so i dont really need a 1.6 or 2.0l if the eb will fit nayway?

I doubt it... the escorts were pretty tight in the engine bay with the 2ltr, and the 4ltr is a bit longer than that.

What about a cortina, and rip the 250 out of that and stick a 4ltr in... great power to weight ratio, and it would be easier to register than the 4ltr escort.

There is no way it would fit in an Escort without major bodywork and i think the handling with it wouldnt be too good either, it would be possible but a lot of work moving the firewall and getting Engineers report etc. A Capri V6 is a fairly tight fit. You would be better off with a 6 Cyl Cortina and fitting an OHC I6 into that.

Re: ford escort 4.0L is it possible?

Why you would want to put a great long engine like a Falcon Six into a little car like an Escort is beyond me.

Why not one of the Essex 3.0 or Cologne 2.8 V6 out of a Capri if you want to go Six pack powered.

I have seen a 265 Hemi powered Mk I Escort though, so I suppose anything is possible with a Gas Axe and a couple of Slabs.........

Re: ford escort 4.0L is it possible?

I hope you know you can't just drop the engine in and be done. Your going to need the engine, harness, ECU, new trans(most likely), bigger rad., probly a bigger full pump, the engine mounts, transmission mounts... I could go on, but i think you get the point. I was planning on putting an 350 V8 in a 1st gen rx7. But its a huge job man, just from the angel that unless you have a few grand just to dump into it and get what you want, it's going to sit in your driveway for half a year. Why dont you just look into getting a car with a 6cyl. Well, best wishes,

Mike

Grab a tape measure, and check the length of the 4ltr, and also the length of the esky engine bay...

I have seen a turbo X Flow 4.1 in an Escort wagon before .. so it can be done. It was a hige job as it was legally registered.
