Re: fuel cutout

i have an LX hatchback. 128k but it was reconstructed. everything from the firewall back looks great. passenger side front quarter pannel doesn't match and isn't aligned perfectly. interior is in good shape. so besides the obvious reconstruct job that was done on it, it's great...well, except for the broken timing belt which was never changed...ripped to shreds where it broke. anyway..it's a pizza delivery car and had to be patient to get the guy to go down to $800. i mentioned the timing belt was going to have to be changed and that it was reconstructed. he wanted $1200 but i would have never paid that for it. i'm from portland, or. my girlfriend lives in mchenry, il by the way. i wish i were you so i could be close to her. i really hope i get this new belt on and it starts up without a hitch...please god.

Re: fuel cutout

my non-interference engine did what it was supposed to!! i got my timing belt on today..took forever to get that son of a bitch crankshaft pully off though. put that belt on, tripple checked to make sure it was timed right (about 6 revolutions) got everything back together, started up my car and heard my engine run. i was relieved. then i went to go drive it around and was really sad when it was missing terribly while driving. i tore up the #1 spark plug wire boot taking it out so i popped the hood, pulled on the throttle and it was like 4th of july. i was extremely relieved, went to a 24hr auto parts store, got a set up spark plug wires, replaced the #1 wire...................runs excellent. now i've got the timing belt and a new serp belt. all together, i spent about $100 and got a few new tools in the process.

mad happened to me too :(

I wasn't the one driving the car...but i heard it just started dying on the highway. Got it towed home and now it won't start. I checked the plugs and while they are making spark they seem to be totally dry. It doesn't look like there is any fuel going into the cylinder. What can be causing this?

I checked the fuel pump, that's working, i checked the pressure relief valve (right before the fuel injectors) and that had fuel. The fuel injectors have power and proper resisatance but I really doubt that they all got clogged at the same time. I'm gonna check the 02 sensor tomorrow maybe that's that prob. Anyone got any ideas?

Does that fuel cutoff switch stop fuel from going past the filter? or where does it cut it, the fuel pump? I really can't grasp why the fuel can get to the fuel injector and yet not into the cylinder?

Any help is appreciated.

I am not sure where the cutoff is located. I would assume that it would be before the engine because it's purpose is to prevent a fire or explosion in an accident. One would assume that this means that the pump is tripped off. There is apparently some other fuel cutoff too... the inertia switch? I would run the trouble codes, and I bet you'll immediately know what's wrong. If there is spark, then i doubt it's that TFI, but it could be, so check that out. You can tell when it's fried by looking at it and smelling it.

If you'd like I could swing down to Illinois in the scort and take the gal out for a spin, se how she's doing and maybe make her a little less lonesome.... ;-) I know how that is though. I had 2 long distancers... one was too far to drive often, like you have, and the other was just between too far, and close enough, which is almost worse because you have to always sit and consider the drive.... plus she always wanted to come home for weekends, and the 12 hr round trip on Friday and then Sunday (sometimes Monday) was a pain. My family has a place on a lake that I used sometimes, and it's 1/2 way on a map, but by road its 3 hrs off the path, so there would be 6 hrs up, 3 hrs back, 3 hrs off the freeway and then Id sleep a few hrs, have a day, 6 hrs back to her school, and 6 hrs home.... good times. I also should mention that I had my old gen 1 89 scort GT at the time. I bought it from the neighbor who was backing out of his driveway to take the car to the scrap yard for $50.00 as he just got a new car. Granted, he didnt know anything about cars, but this meant that it was maintained for crap. It had 180,000+ miles (the odometer and speedo were broken). It was kinda rusty in some spots you cant see, and it was fun. I was told I had a yr. tops if I was gentle, put some money into it and drove sparingly. I had it double that, put in oa new alternator, wheel bearing, spindle and 1 tire. I drove that thing at least 70k miles... and it ran fine when I gave it up. $100.00 car. Now I have a 91 EGT in mint condition. 72k miles. No rust. all the bells and whistles. Saw it at a dealer in a rural area (by that lake) and went from 1300 to 900. I have had to replace the alternator... wheel nearings will come ($70 to do myself) and I put a new exhaust system on it. I also have a broken idle step up valve, but that was from replacing the alternator. The only problem is the paint. In 91 I guess the cool color was teal, with matching hilighted rims. Ive seen this car in this color a lot, and it seems a bit feminine, esp. with the wheels matching, but I cant complain!
