Fuel economy..
Just curious as to what others get for fuel economy.I am in Canada..I was with a friend when she bought her new Escort..(s/w..auto/air)and I have driven it/been in it enough..to know the fuel costs..Her's gets right around 30 mpg highway..this is Canadian..our gallon is bigger..but we get it in litres so I converted it.Her's has always run perfect..and always got about the same mileage..
I bought the same car a while ago..and was expecting the same mileage..and would even have been satisfied with a bit less..
My first tank of gas translated into 36 mpg..in the city ALONE..I thought there was something wrong with the odometer..so I checked it.Then I thought the pump may be inaccurate..my first check on the highway..produced a WHOPPING 42 mpg!..mind that this was a secondary highway with a 50mph speed limit..and I drove it.
The mileage has stayed the same.
An interesting point is that her car EASILY! passed emmissions tests..and mine BARELY..and I mean BARELY passed..both run as new.
I must say that in all fairness..I have NEVER been in/driven ANY car that got an honest 40 mpg on the highway..sure I have heard all the stories..AND driven so called economy cars..BEEN n them..OWNED them..seen some dip into the high 20's..
We had a zillion Volkswagen Beetles..(nd I think I owned most of them )n our family..late 60's to mid 80's.Not one EVER got 30 mpg in the city..or 35 on the hwy.Ever.And I could probablly list off quickly..15 or 20 that we had.Chevettes..we had a lot of those too!..They ALL got 37 mpg..city..highway..combined..winter..summer..running BADLY..as new..babied..run hard..didn't matter.
Anyway..just curious as to what others get..
Thanks..Arnold
