Fuel gauge problem

I'm having a problem with my fuel gauge reading too high recently. I'm assuming it's a problem in the tank with the sending unit. I saw that you can ground out the gauge wire and should go to one extreme or the other. I also saw on the net about a slosh module that plugs into the back of the cluster that can cause problems but that seemed to cause problems with the gauge dropping. I guess I'll try a new pump assembly unless anyone has a different idea. I found several used units on ebay or a new one that doesn't mention the brand: New Electric Fuel Pump Gas with Sending Unit Mercury Tracer Ford Escort 99 2003 | eBay

Any opinions on new or used? I didn't want to spend over $100.
