fuel problem for ford laser 86

Hi guy,

I have ford laser 86 (E3 engine). The problem is the fuel on the carburetor sometime empty. I alredy replace fuel pump, fuel filter and cleaning carburetor and fuel tank. but after the car running for a time, the fuel on carburetor empty again. please give us solution, i already have a head sick couse it..:(. The problem is happened intermittenly.

From memory, these carby's have a filter on top of the needle & seat (inside the carby) & they can block up & cause problems.
Also, the screen on the tank pick-up could be blocked.

hi,..

i already check n clean the filter on top of needle and seat of carb. but the problem still happened, sorry,..could you explain more detail what you mean about " the screen on the tank pick-up could be blocked " .

The fuel pick-up/ sender unit will fit in from the top of the fuel tank. There is usually a gauze screen on the bottom of the pick-up to filter out any crap before it gets sucked to the carby. I think you need to remove the back seat from a Laser to access it (it's been a few years since I did one).
I recall we had one Laser where there pick-up filter had come off & the pick-up pipe was flush against the bottom of the tank, causing it to severely restrict fuel flow.

I 'll check the pick up filter and pipe on fuel tank after after I finish my work hours.

i already open the fuel tank, i see no filter in there, only pick up pipe (2 pick up pipe ) i was using air compressor to clean the pipe.
but after that, i run my sweet car, the problem still happen. would you give us sugestion ?

Hey Emut, I've attached diagrams showing how to modify the fuel pick-up. The drawings aren't great (I'm no artist) but you should get the general idea.

thanks..u give us inspiration. i was bending (not much) the fuel pick up pipe.
finally my laser can run normally, I was driving almost a day, and my car's running without problem.
