Question German Capri Rs

I Am Looking For Information About A 1977 Capri Rs. I Found One Last Year In My Hometown. The Guy Who Owned It Was A Capri Collector And Gave Me A Little History About The Car Since I Have Never Seen A Rs Before. This Rs Was Not Imported By Lincoln Mercury. It Was Silver With Black Stripes, Had Factory Fender Flares, Spoiler And Air Dam. It Have Ford Stickers On The Fender Flares And Many Other Places. The Wheels Were The Type Use On Ferrari's At The Time. The Guy Stated That It Was A German Capri. He Took Me For A Very Fast Ride. Strong V-6. The Owner Stated That A Ford Exec Was At The Factory In Germany In 1977 And Liked The Car And Had It Shipped To The States. He Sold It Years Later To Another, Who Then Sold It To This Guy. This Guy Said We Would Sell It To Me, But I Did Not Have The Extra $$ At The Time. Buy The Time I Had The $$, He Had Already Sold It To A Guy In Virginia Beach. I Wish I Had My Camera At The Time I Saw It, But Times Gone By. Anyone Who Could Provide Any Info, Please Reply. Thanks

Re: German Capri Rs

Are you sure it was 1977? Because that would put it into MK2 territory, and as far as I'm aware no MK2 RS's were ever made. The German RS2600 was around, 5 years before, but that was a MK1, was it like this one>

Re: German Capri Rs

LM Imported the rs in 1977. It was featured in a couple as magazines. It turned out to be a regular capri "s" with some body mods. The rs I refer to is a 1977 with the rectangular headlights that were used in Europe. It was a German Ford Capri RS. As far as I can tell, it was the only true German Capri RS ever in the US.

Re: German Capri Rs

The only true German RS was the RS2600 from 1972. Edsel Ford II had one and here's a link to a story about it. The vehicle is now owned by Norm Murdoch from Team Blitz.

Re: German Capri Rs

Boy do I wish I had a camera with me at the time. It looked just like the RS that LM was selling in the US at that time, but had the rectangular head lights and different wheels.

Smile Re: German Capri Rs

A Very Special Capri II
Randy Betki, who brought his Capri RS-2800. This one was different: Not only is it the very first Capri RS-2800, (only 24,000 miles on it, and it even has its original tires!) it also has a turbocharger! Apparently, it is the only RS-2800 to get that turbocharger. Ford originally planned to release the turbo 2800 for sale, but the RS 2800 program was canceled before it reached the showroom. It's a blow-through type turbo, going into a Motorcraft 2150 carburetor. This car appeared on the cover of Car & Driver magazine in January of 1977. Randy purchased the car from ASC, which was doing the RS-2800 conversions for Ford, shortly after Ford canceled the RS-2800 program. Fewer than 50 RS-2800s were built.
