Hi everyone! I'm really hoping someone might be able to give me a point in the right direction.

Last night, my boyfriend and I went to the drive-in and watched a long movie without starting my 2000 Escort ZX2. The car started right up when we left, but partway through our trip home, the battery light turned on. The car didn't drive any differently, but the light remained lit most of the trip (turned off once and turned back on).

This morning, the car started with no difficulty, but after a short stop at a gas station and about 3 minutes down the road past that, the light lit up again.

I noticed that when I would sit at a light for more than 15 seconds, the battery light would turn off, turning back on again about 15 seconds after accelerating from the stop.

I'm fairly certain that the problem is not the battery, as I replaced the battery about 1 year ago.

I'm really broke right now, so I'm looking for whatever advice I can get to help point me in the right direction so I don't have to spend a bunch of money needlessly at the dealership.

Sounds like the alternator is starting to fail on you. It can be checked with a voltage meter, or for free at a parts store.
