Help with stumbling on '95 Escort LX

Hello. I have a '95 Escort LX, 5-speed,1.9L. Recently I have been having an issue with the car stumbling, or missing under certain conditions. It seems that if I start out in 1st, I can floor it, redline every gear, and it drives fine. However, if I am under very low throttle conditions (highway cruising, etc..) the car will shake and stumble. Also, if I am at a low rpm in a higher gear and try to accelerate, it will do the same thing. If I downshift, it seems to be fine. It actually feels like the engine is cutting out for a split second when it happens, it can get quite violent. The car has ~80k miles on it, never given me any problems. Just for a little background, the car has always been well-maintained, has new battery, recently changed fuel filter, in-tank fuel strainer, new spark plugs/wires, new O2 sensor. Engine grounds cleaned/replaced. I have had this problem before any of that was done. Could anyone please give me an idea of what the problem may be? Thanks alot..

Exclamation Re: Help with stumbling on '95 Escort LX

Your problem sounds identical to the one I just had with my '95 Escort. The problem was dirt in the IAC (idle air control) valve. See my posting on another thread in this forum, copy and paste the URL listed below in your browser window.
