high pitch noise

i have a 1993 escort with a 1.9 liter 5 speed. right after you start it up there is a high pitch noise in the engine bay. it sounds like the noise is coming from between the engine and firewall. the noise kinda goes away after you give it some gas but comes back after it idles back down. i don't think i have ever heard it when the car is up to temperature. thanks

Re: high pitch noise

sounds like a vacume leak to me. Probably one of those bits of spagetti they have hanging off them has a split in it. Just have a look at all the small rubber hoses and make sure they are all plugged on and have no splits and are in good condition.

Re: high pitch noise

no...this sounds more like a bearing going bad.

Re: high pitch noise

Bearing noises usually have a beat to them because they are rotating. So best bet is to cut off a bit of garden house about 500mm long, hold one end up to your ear and use the other end up against the motor to try and pin point the noise. Could be the thrust bearing on the clutch on its way out.
