Question High RPMs

Ok i own a 1996 Ford Escort with a 1.9L SOHC. And have not done any modifications, yet!, the reason: a few things that need fixing before they get worse. 1. The car idles so high 2K+ , ok i have tried getting some info, one guy told me his idles really low, 870, i believe and the only response we got was that it was the TPS idle monster. This was like 2 weeks ago, i know what the TPS idle motor/valve is but what would cause it to idle so high? I have taken it off and cleaned every single part of it to no avail? 2. My car has an embarrassing backfire, i know that it isnt "Spark Blowout", i have replaced all of my sesnsors(MAF, IAT, O2) to no avail, i know that the #1 reason for backfire is a rich a/f mixture. But any ideas? I am at a loss! Is it the valve seating? Please contact me at R_W_Morley@hotmail.com thanks

Hi HyperScort.I don't think I can help with this one but I would have thought the TPS would have caused the high idle.Maybe you should get this particular sensor tested.Let us know how you get on.

Re: High RPMs

Newbie here, but I had the same problem. Had built in cruise control between 25 & 40 for blocks at a time. Reved up to 3m or 3500 on start up until I put it in gear and then 2m until moved down. Reved between 1500 and 2m when at stop. My son, after many parts that didn't help, put on a ?? selenoid. It's located just to the right of the throttle body and under the air filter housing and pushes the carb butterfly open. The plunger was staying open and SLOWLY closing. My 1990 in all the books except at NAPA said I didn't have one on my car, but it was there. It worked. Check it out.
