How do I reset the computer in a 99 Ford Escort?

ok - I'm a car TARD, so please explain things c l e a r l y.
Thank you.
Here goes: I'm trying to sell or trade in my 99 Ford Escort, the Check Engine light is on, but I took it to the mechanic - he said it's fine (the light keeps going on if I let the gas go too low due to a faulty fuel sensor), but he forgot to do the reset thingy. Now they're closed until Monday, and I need to get this done ASAP (who's gonna offer me a decent trade in price with the check engine light on??).
I just know there's got to be an easier/better way to do this than disconnecting the battery, right??? Some secret button or something? Magic password? Pixie dust?
I hate the idea of having to find a new garage to take it in just for that...

Most local part stores will scan and clear codes for free. Try that.

There is no other magic way. Battery disconnect for 15+ minutes works sometimes.
