Where are you styx? (ie country, area)

Basically check the condition of the body for rust and damage, if you are not sure what to look for try to take someone with more knowledge with you such as a panel beater. Being 30 years old it is pointless to say look in a particular area, rather look everywhere! Having said that a good guide is to find out what rust repair sections are available - they are available for a reason. Although major rust in complicated sections where no repair panels are available could be harder to fix.

By comparison the interior is far less complicated, although big bits of plastic can be hard to replace (eg dash). Also the mechanicals while important are at least straightforward, and most likely will need a complete rebuild anyway, so allow for that.

I would estimate fuel consumption would be 10L/100km or a bit less (just an estimate though)

Here is a webpage that may help you: Capri Links Page

Re: I decided to buy a Ford Capri Mk1 1600 from 1974

Thanks a lot for your reply, I,m from Europe, Romania.
I looked inside (took a peak trough the window) and it was in a good condition, nothing big missing, and i also saw something that gives me hope, a flier from Metro Cash&Carry, and the first store opened about five years ago, and my guess is that it has been abandoned (yes, i forgot to mention it is abandoned) because in 2001 all the cars had to change the nuber plates to a more modern type, and a lot of people abandoned their old cars because they thought the price for the new plates is too high.

My gratest concern is that it's not running, and that means a big nightmare if i buy it (i guess some of you know allready) because i didn't call the owner yet, but i thought i should not pay morer that 200-250$ what do you say, is it too much ??

Re: I decided to buy a Ford Capri Mk1 1600 from 1974

by the looks of the picture, the sills are in pretty bad condition, and they will cost a fair bit to have them fixed or replaced, as they are one of the major structural parts of the car. Doors and qtr panels are pretty easy to fix, and are availalbe in fibre glass and carbon fibre in a lot of places, so they are easy to deal with.
The chrome work around the windows is very hard to come by, and by the looks of it, they are in very good condition. If you are looking at doing a MK 1 capri, i would consider buying this one, even if its only for parts. GT bonnets in gond condition are rare these days too, this one also looks in o.k. condition.
Not sure what parts are like in europe, but these are my experiences here in australia.

Good luck with the project. Keep us posted.
