i just got a escort

i recently bought a 1978 4dr GL escort as a daily driver, but the engine that is currently in the car is running up in the kms (currently at 500,000), its the 1.6ltr engine.

I was just wanting to know how easy is it to change it to a 2ltr from another escort, are they a straight swap or are modifcations needed?

thx David

Steering rack has bigger steering rods/ends, heavier front springs/swaybar, bigger brakes, exhaust, 3 core radiator.
Buy a 2ltr wreck and transfer the parts over, all bolt in's(I think!)

Re: i just got a escort

You will have to trim the metal around the radiator, enabling the radiator to fit in the engine bay with the 2litre.

Re: i just got a escort

whiel you guys are talking escorts
I have recently come accross a very neat mk1 2 door escort.
The boby is near perfect and ready for a complete overhaul.
The current engine is a 1300 auto which is barely getting out the drive way.
Just wondering if any of you know the simplest way to put an engine in to replace it eg what type, 1600, 2000.
Does the 2L pinto fit in easily or is the alot of stuffing around???
