Question IAT sensor causes very lean mixture ??

Hi,

I've got a strange problem on my 105hp 1.6 EFI ford escort '91

When the IAT (intake air temp) sensor is connected, the mixture goes very lean (lambda < 0.1V), and of course, driveability goes bye-bye...

When the IAT is disconnected, the mixture goes rich (lambda=0.9V), and the car behaves OK, but fuel consumption goes up.

Oxygen sensor is brand new.

What might be causing this, eludes me...

Re: IAT sensor causes very lean mixture ??

hi VEX

would need more details on the type of system you are running ( ECU )
but generally remove the IAT from the manifold using a ohmmeter and thermometer heat the sensor and record the resistance and see if you are within manufactures specifications

check that 5 volts is available between the ECU and the sensor harness connector terminals with ignition on

if the voltage is not correct check the wiring between sensor and ECU

check earths

see how you go
