Question Just bought 1996 Escort - Newbie ?'s...

Hi everyone! I just picked up a 1996 Escort...some details...

1996
Black on Grey
Stick
2-Door hatchback
Blown Motor

My mechanic knew I was looking for a car I could pick up cheap so when the owner of this car blew the motor he offered to buy it from her. Apparently she never changed the oil in the car. I picked up the car for $1,200...its mint, I mean not a scrach or dent...and that price includes my mechanic installing another engine. Honestly, I looked at the car for 3 seconds before I bought it, so I really don't know anything else about it. I know he will have the new engine in it by next week, so I have a week to look for stuff.

So, here are my questions...thanks in advance..

1. Are there any decent websites for overal info on the 96 escort?
2. What mods are worthwhile?
3. What does a stick 96 hatchback run 1/4s in?

I really think this will be a fun car to Auto-X and 1/4 and I can't wait to get started.

Thanks again,
Erik

Hopefully soon. We ran into a slight snag...all I can find is the 1.9l engine and I am looking for the 1.8l gt version. If I can't find one, I might not take the car as I found out the 1.9s seem to blow quickly.

The engine is/has been out already. He checked over the car (I trust him) and told me its perfect for me. The car looks 1-2 years old max, the person kept it in really good shape. The exhaust is fine, as well as the tranny and brakes. He is going to clean out the fuel system when the new engine is in...if I can find one...
