Re: Laser TX3 Turbos

I'm an Owner of a FWD Turbo Laser

I have a 1994 KJ Laser Lynx that has had an engine conversion. Yet to see another of its kind

FWD turbo's aren't all bad news. Just got to drive them a little bit different

I ended up selling my KJ Hatch to my old man and bought the Lynx with the Conversion already done.

Actually have the Lynx For Sale now

Have my New Project 2001 Mazda Astina, looking at either a V6 Engine Conversion or Supercharging, still undecided yet

Cheers

Hi...My Daughter has owned a 1985 laser KB turbo "white lightning" for 5 years now, it is in all original trim. We had it repainted 3 years ago with all the stripes and markings redone and I rebuilt the engine (not an easy task to get parts). When I bought it I phoned Ford Australia in Sydney who wanted all the VIN, engine # etc. They told me that they built 300 of them for the initial Formula 1 GP in Adelaide. They advised keeping the car in original trim, Recaro seats, mag wheels etc, they also told me what serial # it is!!! I have seen and driven 1 in Adelaide last year where it was for sale at $5,995 but it was clapped. There are 2 here in Perth but the owners had replaced the engines to non turbo standard.
I would be interested to hear from anyone who has or knows where a work shop manual is for the "WL" as it is not covered in any Laser book I have seen.

Hi,
I 'm sure I saw an owners handbook supplement for a KB Turbo recently. When I remember where, will try and get some info to you.

I can remember checking out KB turbo in the showroom at the local Ford dealer when they were new. Price was high for Laser, and it didn't get great reviews from the magazines. It sat there for quite some time. Probably not the best car too sell in rural dealership.
Kev.

We have a 1990 KF2 TX3 4WD Turbo. Best car I've driven so far ( If you like fast, nippy little cars) except for the Subaru STI WRX. But it can give it a run for it money and most other cars that's for sure. It has alot of potential if your into advancing a cars qualities. There's good hints, tips and general info. on upgrading and basic car care in Overview:- Laser TX3 4WD Turbo KF2. It's a great, money well spent little car the will leave other for dead, and it's still only a Laser.

Should look into. It's a must.

I've had my KF TX3 turbo 4WD for 9 years. Yes i had to replace gear box 3 clutchs and a few other things. But bang for buck best car ever. My only upgrades 3" exuast front to back, pod filter, lowered 2". Stock boost 8psi with those two mods 14psi or 1bar.Car has done 285,000 still original engine and turbo and does not look like giving up yet, regular oil changes helps alot.
I have been neck and neck or beaten every car i've raced eg WRXs,180sx,V8s even a R32 gtst off the mark, keep up or beat most bikes except 1100s to quick, have many stories to tell.
Car for sale now highest offer so far $9500

your better off getting a familia half cut and putting the whole engine loom and computer in, parts cost around $2200 delivered and then depending on how much you can do yourself budget around $2800 upwards.
great little cars just a few things from my read through here

kb was the white lightning
kc didnt come turbo in australia though in japan came as 4wd turbo
ke came as 4wd and fwd these are a 1,6t B6T
kf and kh 4wd only and these are 1.8t BPT

its also an easy conversion for the mechanically minded to put the 1.8t into the kc/ke body.
there is actually a forum all about these cars www.fordlaser.com
as well as a good classifieds section with tx3's for sale
