Merkur XR4Ti (Ford Sierra Turbo)

Hi All!

I'm the lucky owner of one of these beasts... was just wondering if there are any other Aussie owners out there?

Sadly, it has to go to make way for a more 'sensible' daily driver, lol :(

Here are some pics of my baby!

Some Pictures:

Now, if anyone is interested in it, specs/contact details are below... I thought it would be better to offer it to people who can appreciate it for what it is, rather than just put it in the trading post and have someone buy it and thrash it etc.

Dark Blue
2.3 Litre
Factory TO3 Turbo
Rear Wheel Drive
Ford C3 Automatic
97,000 Miles
Power Windows
Power Mirrors
Factory Bodykit
Redline BOV
GFB Atomic Boost Controller
3" Dump-Back Exhaust
Running 13psi (11psi is stock on these cars)
K&N Style Pod Filter

Recently serviced, new Nolathane suspension bushes in front end, Cooling system flushed and all hoses replaced recently. Paint is overall in good condition with a few VERY minor blemishes

These cars have 150hp (Auto) and 175hp (Manual)... The only difference is the amount of boost the 2 are running... Autos run 11psi stock, and manuals run 15psi.
So, with the mods this car has (13psi, 3" exhaust, pod) i estimate it would have around 170hp @ engine.

Currently registered, but will sell Unregistered for $4500, or Registered + RWC for $5200
Will consider swap + cash for the right car

Re: Merkur XR4Ti (Ford Sierra Turbo)

hello mate.

I dont have the Merkur, but have the Euro version, the XR4i. Mine is the 2.8i V6 that powered the later model capris. ABout 150hp from the factory, and reasonably quick. Mine has possibly been modified as it feels a bit quicker than 0-100 in 7.5 secs, but it is the torque that gets me. It will pull from any speed in any gear without any fuss. The engine noise is simply sensational, especially at idle and between 3000 and 4000 rpm.

As far as I know, there are no other XR4i in Perth, with one XR4x4. I have seen the odd XR4i come up for sale for about $12-14k, but never a XR4ti. Pity you have to sell it. I know the looks these things get.

Good luck selling :-)

Re: Merkur XR4Ti (Ford Sierra Turbo)

thanks sam_zagami... i've seen that one before and contacted the owner... the engine in that one has since been blown up (apparently he put 30psi boost through it ) and he sold it to someone who is now restoring it..

Yes, they're an American car, but a limited number were imported (privately)

Re: Merkur XR4Ti (Ford Sierra Turbo)

When you place an ad on carsales.com.au you have to select a category that your car fits into, and the specs etc... i have not found where you can enter your own specs on the car... and in the sierra category, they only had a RS Cosworth category, in manual, so thats what i had to choose as there was nothing else even closely resembling the car :(... i know, it sucks, but there's not alot i can do :(

However, if you are interested in the car i can tell you right now that a T5 (Ford falcon 5-speed) transmission is the common swap for these cars. I even know of a couple of webpages that outline exactly what you parts you need, and what you need to do etc...

Just something to think about :)
