hey people...Im looking at getting an mrk2 Rs2000 and I was wondering if you could tell me a couple of things about them.

1. How many where built/imported to Australia? And whats the ratio between Coupes and Sedans?

2. Mechanically whats the difference to a normal escort? Ie. motor etc.

I know when I drove one a while back the shift seemed really small/short. Do they have some kind of quick shift?

3. Is it hard and expensive to get performance out of them?

4. Do you think its a wise idea for me to use one as a daily driver?

Does anyone here have pics of there cars? I was hoping to get a coupe but Ive found a sedan at a really good price.

There were 25 MkII's imported in 1976 these were German built cars. I think around 4000 were built in Aus ill find out when i find the book ive got on Escorts. the 25 had slight modifications head cam exhaust and the Aus built ones were identical mechanically to the earlier rallypack Escorts except they had a Quickshift on the gearbox. The German models also had alloy engine mounts, sump and bellhousing, Recaro Seats as opposed to Scheel seats. Performance is fairly easy to get out of them just the usual exhaust, cam, head, carby etc. They make a great daily driver unless they have got Twin Webers and then Economy isnt good as you will be lucky to get 20MPG where over 30 for a four speed and up to 40 for a 5 speed. Watch out for the front nose section as these crack easily and are difficult to repair properly. Good Luck

thanks for that bsmyth.........the one im looking at is red and is a 1979 model.

Ill find out the vin numbers to see if its genuine, its advertised as one though. With the seats though, I was looking at a rs2000 before this one and he told me the racing seats were after market. So do all RS's come with racing seats?

I was kinda hoping later on, instead of going the usual webber mods way, I would like to maybe turbo it once im off im p's and insurance is a bit more realistic. Is it hard to do? And what woudl the cost be approximatley?

Im not sure on cost of turboing it depends on how far you want to go of course you could run a blow through carby on low boost but the best idea is to get sierra EFi about $500 for a full kit and turbo that with a unichip or aftermarket computer. All RS's have sports seats the common ones are Scheels which are very similar to Recaro's. Red seems to be the most common colour which is why i will be painting mine black. Good Luck

Where are you buying your turbo/injection setup from,I'll take 2 at $500.

For an injected 2ltr pinto to start, a bare injected 205 blocked engine (better rods/block)is about $600.

turbo $400+
A/M computer $500+
Cam $200+
dyno/set up $250+

plus fitting if your not doing it your self,
Im either fitting a Zetec 2ltr next or turbo the pinto 2ltr in my RS

The set-up i was talking of was just the injection manafold etc to set-up EFi on a Pinto, not a turbo system.

as I would want to use it as a daily driver, is there anything that annoys you about them?

Like I said Ill wait untill im off my P's and maybe another year after that (so ill be 23) then worry about turbos etc etc.

Any other things I should keep in mind?

oh and while on the topic........without being too biased..what do you think is the better buy...

that RS or a 1988 FWD turbo tx3?

I like the RS because it has a bit of history behind it and its RWD, but its getting a bit old. The tx3 is fine except its FWD......what to do???????

Check for rust in the firewall around the bulge area, rust in the C-pillars, wheelarches and floor. Do all the usual checks ie. engine not smoky on startup or under acceleration, check the nose for damage and cracking.

Get the RS they are a lot more fun to drive than even a 4wd TX3 have a lot more potential, and they also look a lot better.
