The nose cone and passenger side has been resprayed since these photos,now just gotta do the floor in body colour.
Looks way cool :) Whats done to it to make it nearing completion? Planning of racing it at all? Love to see more pics :)

BA XR6 - December 2002 ~ Soon to disappear if Ford CRC can't fix it....
45,000km service coming up - and i'll be asking for a sizable list of fixes:
* Gearbox (3rd time)
* Steering click (5th time)
* Brake Shudder (2nd time, and has the applied "Fix")
* etc...
Just a quick question... what is the standard 4speed manual gearbox that is on the RS2000's such as "XR6 VCT UTE"'s.
Just curious about things such as manufacturer, model, maximum torque loading, etc... :)
Curious at what stage its worth getting a 5 speed (even if it is a crap T5) into it. Also is it cable or hydrolic clutch in the RS2000?
Oh and one final piece of info, how about LSD? I assume they come with one, what brand/model? :)

I spent all today working on it, and the camera was full at the end of the day, but since these photos I’ve got the Nosecone off (not an easy task) and i have started to grind off the filler and crap off the quaterpanels. This car has an appalling paint job, and it probably weighs two tons because it has filler in places there is simply no need for. Next up is undercoating and some rust treatment, then I can start working on the dash which needs a fair bit of work. Apart from that, its reasonably mechanically sound of what we know so far.
Ian, im not sure about the gearbox make and stuff… all I could find was the ratios so if you want them they are:
A 5 speed is available and is out of a 2.0L Sierra or mkIII Capri. it is a bout $500 and is basically an original 4speed with an overdrive in the extension housing. They are not as strong as the orignal 4 speed.
I thought i would post a couple of pics of my MkII RS2000 which is a LONG project after the MkI's are finished it will be started on. I boought it 3 years ago for $1800 but it was complete and came with spare nosecone, bonnet, doors, boot and rear spoiler and was fitted with a quickrack which are $250+ on their own. The body isnt too bad although the floor around the trans tunnel is bad but apart from some rust in the rear pillar and damager where a wheel come off the outside is fairly good for a 25 year old car.
Just another question - i'm really keen here, can you tell?
Whats the MK2 RS2000 like on the track? is it hard to get good balance in the car? What sort of rear suspension is used? What about front suspension and steering?
Whats common/can be done to make it corner better :)

Rear suspension is by leaf springs and can be improved many ways but the best mod is to fit Anti-Tramp bars to stop axle tramp and some decent shocks like Koni and a anti-roll bar if one isnt fitted. Front suspension is mcPherson Strut, a bigger Anti-roll bar helps as well as making the camber and castor adjustable and again some decent shocks like koni's. Steering is fairly good but a quicker more direct steering rack is available and can be a good investment. Brakes are really the main weakness in the Escorts and are alright for a lot of drivers but will fade quickly on the track. The rear suspension can be improved a lot more if you want to spend lots of dollars by converting it to Four-Link and Panhard Rod with Coil Springs instead of the leaf springs but this isnt cheap or easy to do and really there are a lot of other mods that would be worthwile to do before this.
no Aussie RS2000's had LSD's but they are available from England for about $1000 in plate type and the newer Torque Biasing type.
Clutch is cable in all Escorts except Twin Cams, RS1600's and Mexico's
The MkII RS2000 is a great car for the track although is and they can be balanced fairly easily and with some decent power out of the engine go really hard.
If you are interseted i can scan an artile on setting up Escorts for track days.

Mate, you are full of useful information! :) Okay, i've got the names of the books for modifing the pinto engine, what about body/chassis tuning? Are there specific books for that or just more generic?
I'd love to see the articles if you have the time!
