I just bought this escort earlier this month, and do not have an owners manual for it and am looking for some answers to my questions.
1. Is there or was there a key fob that came with this model that opened the trunk? The reason I ask is that if I open the trunk and look at the underside of the lid I see a wiring that goes to the trunk latch. I cannot find any button inside that open the trunk from inside so I'm thinking there was a fob that came with this car that opened the trunk and doors.....although I also think that maybe this is not true since I do not have power locks. Can anyone help me with this?
2. I live in a state that requires a lic. plate on the front and back of the car. The front does not have any holes for a screw to go in for the front plate. I went to a dealer and they said that I need to drill some holes and just screw in a screw. But the back of the car has holses drileld and some black plastic grommets in there for the screw to screw into. So are these black grommets supposed to be in the front also? and is this service manager full of crap? \
The wiring may well be for the alarm if you have one fitted. If not you'd need to gain access to see if there's actually a boot release motor in there. Can't really say about the number plate issue, over here all cars need 'em front and rear and there's usually markings on the front bumper and/or screw holes at the rear.
How about making holes yourself and your trunk lid should have a release mechanism either in the glove compartment or on the side of driver seat or under the dash panel.
