ok...heres the story.

Ive always wanted a quick car. My car I have now is no slouch but I intend to spend about another 3k on making it quicker and then thats it. Ive finally (slightly) given up on the idea of having a extremely quick street car.

I wouldn't mind a motorbike but the two handbrakes in my life (gf and mum) told me they would dis-own me if I was to get one.

So, I had a dream last night (sad I know), of buying an escort and racing it. I would like a mk2 preferably; and it would definatly be a coupe.

How much are they going for these days? All I would be after is something that is straight and rust free; and goes of course..lol

Then I guess I would strip it bare and then proceed to do what needs to be done. Ie- engine, suspension mods etc etc..and obviously safety stuff like a roll cage.

Then Im guessing I will need a CAMS licence of some sort. Any got any ideas on what I would need there?

Im guessing that the escort will be good in the bang for your buck scenerio, so I cant wait!

What do you guys think? Anyone else here doing the same kind of thing?
I dont mind this being a long term proporsition either.

Also, one last thing. I think there is some kind of dirt rally course out near Avalon. Is this true? I swear I saw a signon the edge of the princess in bound to geelong.

A dirt rally course.. I will have to look into that.
I have 2 MK2 coupes in my driveway but unfortunately neither is for sale YET!
My brothers is a Rally Pack which will be turbo'd and used for hill climbs and track days.
Mine is an RS2000 and I will drive it around for a while then sell it when it's finished.
You should be able to pick up a fairly good 2 door for less than $1000

What you want to do is go and by the cams book, I think they are about $50 and it outlines what you need to race, eg Suit, helmet, licences, shoes, harness etc. It list catogries etc and everything you need to know. I think it also what sort of mods you can and cant do to the car.

Escorts are dirt cheap, I wouldnt even bother about getting one that runs if I were you, just get one thats complete. Watch for rust in fire wall, sill panels & guards, roof gutters, front floors and lower radiator support panel. Try and get one that is factory auto as they have a larger transmission tunnel so its easier to fit a 5sp.

Id say that track would be an auto cross track. Basically Auto cross is pretty much "run what you brung" provided it is road worthy (doesnt have to be licenced tho), its one car on the track at a time and your racing the clock. Cheap way to get into motorsport.

hey bro, i had that same dream not long ago so now my mkII is going to soon be put away to be setup for track and rally, infortunately mines is a restorers delight lol(ie lots of hidden things gone wrong)

well if you fell like sellign one of those coupes later next year then ill be interested.

I would kill for an RS but I dont have the heart to chop one up.
